The city reached a point in which stopped needing a vigilante and it started to need actual people and laws to hold up. Peter Parker got that job, which he initially liked to get some extra money, instead of helping his caretakers out with it, he squandered his profits, which led to his uncle taking on more stress and responsibility, which lead to his Uncle's death. If you look at Spider-Man like my hypothesis does, that being Spider-Man really represents getting another job, it makes sense. He does learn to have fun with his compulsion, but it's not a hobby. He's determined never to cause a loved one or prevent a death on an innocent again. His using his power for selfish luxury led to his Uncle's death. Peter is driven to do his actions as Spider-Man, mostly out of guilt, but partly out of making something out of his life. Tl dr - Spider-Man is really about taking a second or third job to get bye. (Like a garbage man.) So when people give Peter a hard time for doing what he does, often New Yorkers will back him up and gang up against the guy making his life harder. However, just because the job isn't respectable doesn't mean it's not needed. Dressing up as Spider-Man is the equivalent of taking a job that's not respected in order to help you and your loved ones get by. Now we all know that super-powered vigilantes don't exist, right? So what is Spider-Man 2 really about? It's about a talented young man living in a world that doesn't allow him to follow his dream and make a living at the same time. His life is first, the (solid) plot is a secondary focus.īut it also has fantastic performances from the surrounding cast, Aunt May, J Jonah Jameson, Harry Osborne, at times Mary Jane (her constant screaming is what drives the movie down for me), and of course Peter Parker and his nemesis.
